Annapurna Circuit Trekking is another classic route and equal to the Everest Base Camp trek. It is not for the faint hearted as it requires you to transit over 5416m at the Thorong La Pass. Taking about two weeks to fully complete, it provides a rare combination of snow capped peaks, crystal clear lakes, turbulent rivers, monasteries, hot-springs and picturesque villages, and takes you off the beaten track into the very heart of the high mountains.
The trek starts at Syange north of the main town of Besisahar. It is about 7 hours drive from Kathmandu or 6 hours from Pokhara. The Annapurna Circuit trek will take you up the Mersyangdi river valley towards the important trading village of Manang. From here you can do a detour to Tilicho lake or spend a day for acclimatisation before ascending Thorong La pass. You will reach sacred Muktinath on the way down from the pass as well as the picturesque towns of Kag Beni and Jomsom. From Jomsom you can fly back to Pokhara or drive down Kali Gandagi valley on recently constructed gravel road via Beni
