Gokyo Lake Trek offers an exciting alternative to the traditional Everest Base Camp Trek. From Namche Bazaar, the route takes you up north to the valley of Ngozumba glacier and to the turquoise lakes at Gokyo. The lakes are sacred to both Hindus and Buddhist and on the festival of Janai Purnima in August, Hindus go there to take a holy bath. From here we climb 'Gokyo Ri' at 5483m for a wonderful view of Everest and the rest of the mountains in this egion.
The route is less crowded than other treks in this area and takes 12-14 days to complete including travel to and from Kathmandu. You can extend the trek to include the Everest Base Camp which is approached via Cho La pass connecting the main route to the Base Camp.
