Imja Tse or popularly known as 'Island Peak' because it looks like an island in a sea of ice is one of the most popular trekking peak in Nepal. The summit is most interesting with a highly glaciated west face rising from the Lhotse Glacier. The Peak itself is the extension of the 8383m Lhotse Shar's south ridge and is separated by a small col. The ridge, rising to the south from this point leads to the summit of Island Peak. The extension of this ridge which descends southwest is part of the normal route of ascent and leads to the south summit. The climb starts with an easy scramble along a rocky ridge to a glacier and above, there is a steep snow headwall leading to a classic summit ridge. The peak is listed as NMA Group B trekking peaks and is slightly more technical than other climbing peaks. There is a superb panoramic view of Khumbu area from its summit as well a Makalu in the west.
You can include Island Peak as part of our other Everest Treks and the ideal combination would be the Base Camp trek followed by climb to this challenging peak.
