Langtang Region boasts many routes, all accessible from the Kathmandu. The treks can be as short as a week to over three weeks long. While the area does not contain any of the Himalayan giants, the scenery here is every bit as spectacular as those areas that do.
Langtang region is rich in flora and fauna with over 165 species of birds and more than 30 species of mammals, including the very rare and endangered Snow Leopard. There are hidden valleys with glaciers, alpine meadows, ancient monasteries and even yak cheese factories. This less-explored central Himalayan region is inhabited mainly by Tamangs whose tradition and religious practices are more akin to the Tibetan people. According to the legend a Lama following a runaway yak discovered the valley and the name -lang - is Tibetan for 'yak' and -teng-(more correctly dhang) means 'to follow.
We offer four contrasting treks in Langtang region the details of which can be seen below.
