Annapurna Base Camp Trekking is a basin at 4130m providing a natural amphitheatre with spectacular 360 degree views of Mt. Annapurna I, Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail), Gangapurna, and Fang. The meadow at the sanctuary is vividly covered with alpine flowers and lichens during the months of March and April.
The Annapurna Base Camp trek starts from Nayapul and goes up through the forested hillside to Ghorepani. An early morning ascent to the viewing point of Poon Hill is rewarded with a wonderful view as the rising sun illuminates Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. The trek then follows the narrow Modi river gorge, past Machhapuchhare Base Camp and finally to the Sanctuary itself. The contrast observable in lifiestyle and agricultue as well as the variety in folra and faunas compond the pleasure of trekking in this region.
The return journey will take you to a large traditional Gurung village of Ghandruk where you may wish to visit famous Annapurna Conservation Area Project head office and small local museum before returning back to Pokhara.
