For centuries, people of the middle hills in Eastern Nepal had to walk for weeks to get to Kathmandu or 'Nepal' as it was known to them then. Our trek traces the route they took on their way back. The trek starts from the airstrip at Lukla, following this old trail east below the Everest and Makalu mountain ranges and ends at Tumlingtar in the Arun valley. This is an 11 day walk consisting of crossing the Hinku and Hunku river valleys and two 3000m passes. Apart from the magnificent sceneries, you will be passing through many traditional Sunwars, Rais and Sherpas villages. You will be overwhelmed by their hospitality and may even get the opportunity to test the 'Tongba', a hot fermented millet beer, or a very potent locally brewed spirit called 'Raksi'. On the sixth day, you should be crossing the 3350m Salpa Pass by the holy Salpa Pokhari and be heading down to Irkhuwa River. You are now in the heart of the Kirati Rai country and Tumlingtar is just another three days walk away. This trek encompasses the cultures and traditions with its beautiful landscapes and mountain sceneries. All the right ingredients for a truly great Himalayan experience.
